Steelers receive title rings

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are giving the thumbs-up to their fifth Super Bowl ring.

The team earned the long-sought "one for the thumb" after beating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL in Detroit in February.

"It's a beautiful ring," right tackle Max Starks said at Sunday's ring presentation ceremony at Heinz Field. "It's a lot more than I expected."

Team owner Dan Rooney, retired running back Jerome Bettis and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger designed the ring.

The yellow gold ring features five diamond Vince Lombardi trophies surrounding the Steelers' logo on the front. One side features a player's name and number; the other shows the game's 21-10 score and the numeral XL.

Bettis persuaded Rooney to include the previous victories.

"He didn't want the other championships to overshadow this one," Bettis said.
