Playtime in the Park
Here are some of the scheduled events at major parks in the Butler County area:
The park is off Route 422 in Muddy Creek, Worth, Brady and Franklin townships and is the site of many programs. The park office can be reached at 724-368-8811.• June 4 — 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., John Baglier Memorial Kids Tournament at the Marina Restaurant sponsored by Butler Basscasters. Call Mark Keene at 724-285-7138.• June 10 and 11, July 8 and 9 and Aug. 5 and 6 — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., demonstrations at Muddy Creek oil field site. Aspecial program will be presented at 1 p.m. Take Old Route 422 west from Prospect interchange and continue half a mile beyond the DCNR district office and boat launch area parking lot. Call park office for details.• June 24 — 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Downs Syndrome of Pennsylvania's Bass Buddies Fishing Tournament at McDanel's boat launch. The park is off Route 422 near the intersection with Route 19, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. It is just west of the Butler County line. The park office can be reached at 724-368-8091.• Guided tours of the restored gristmill are available daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day.• Guided nature walks are conducted every Saturday and Sunday during the summer. Avariety of topics, settings and subjects are discussed and explored.
The center is 12 miles north of Butler on Route 528. The office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset for hiking and other nature-related activities.The park office can be reached at 724-794-6011.• July 30 and Aug. 6 — 2 p.m., prairie tour. Tour guides will explore the site's ecosystem and identify wildflowers in bloom.
