Lending a helping hand

While the weather on Saturday was still a bit chilly, the rain held off long enough for volunteers across the county to tend to memorial gardens.

Troy Fowler, right, hands plants to Melba Tomeo on Saturday at Memorial Park in Slippery Rock borough. A volunteer group gathers yearly to plant the flowers and other vegetation. The plants are donated by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

Cameron Marburger, left, and Mike DeFilippo, both ninth graders at Seneca Valley, help Bill Powis, front, of the Cranberry VFW Post 879, spruce up the Veterans Memorial at North Boundary Park in Cranberry Township on Saturday. Marburger and DeFilippo are teammates on the Seneca Valley football squad.
