Outlaws offer special bonus

BUFFALO TWP — A driver will get the chance to win $50,000 following Friday night's World of Outlaws Sprint Series Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway.

Whoever wins Friday night's feature will be presented the opportunity to start from the back of the World of Outlaws feature Saturday night at Sharon Speedway.

Rally to victory at the Sharon track and the double-winner pockets an extra $50,000 for the feat.

Talk among the Outlaws Mean 15, the drivers who compete regularly on the circuit, is that nobody would decline the offer to go for the extra money.

Driver Ed Lynch Jr. of Apollo, moments after winning his 79th career Sprint feature at Lernerville last Friday, said he will go for the $50,000 if he gets the chance.

Lynch is the only area driver ever to win an Outlawsfeature, capturing the Silver Cup race at the Sarver track in 2002.

Some familiar Outlaws names, such as Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski and Mark Kinser among them, are not racing on the circuit this year.

Veteran Outlaws driver Sammy Swindell is running part of the schedule and will be competing at Lernerville Friday. Swindell has 15 career Outlaws feature wins at Lernerville. He has won the Commonwealth Clash six times.

The Outlawsseries has made at least one appearance at Lernerville annually since 1979.

Swindell and current points leader Donny Schatz are the only drivers with more than one Outlaws feature win so far this season. Both have three victories.

Schatz has 1,711 points on the year, 38 more than Terry McCarl and 40 more than Jac Haudenschild. Joey Saldana is fourth in points and is 42 behind the leader.

Saldana owns the fast lap record at Lernerville, completing one in 12.334 seconds on May 15, 2002.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday night, time trials begin at 7:15 with racing at 8.
