Event a memorial to late bowler

Even in death, Wil Morrow didn't stop giving. His parents want to keep it that way.

The first Wil Morrow Memorial Bowl, an outing designed to raise money toward a youth bowling scholarship, takes place June 3 at Family Bowlaway.

Morrow was killed at age 23 in an automobile accident April 28, 2005. He was president of the Monday night Konno Stones league at Family Bowlaway at the time and led that league with a 205 average.

"Bowling was important to him,"said his father, Dan Morrow. "He was involved in the youth bowling program (at Family Bowlaway) for 10 years.

"Wil was always a giver. He'd do anything for anybody. He was even an organ donor, so he helped other people when he died. We want his name to continue helping people."

Dan Morrow and his wife, Sue, already have established two $500 scholarships to be awarded annually in their son's name to deserving youth bowlers in Butler County.

They have sent scholarship applications to all seven bowling houses in Butler County that have a USBCyouth program and will award them to senior bowlers each year.

The bowling outing June 3 consists of two time periods:12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. For $20, a person gets unlimited bowling for that two-hour period, plus a hoagie, chips, unlimited coffee, tea or a soft drink.

Proceeds from the outing will form additional youth bowling scholarships in Wil Morrow's name.

"We're hoping this program sustains itself year to year,"Morrow said. "Sue and I will present our two $500 scholarships every year as long as we're around. This bowling event can help us do a lot more."

Andy Hevesy, Family Bowlaway's general manager, said the entire 40-lane house will be used for the Morrow outing.

"We've had bowl-a-thons for scouts and other activities before, but never one honoring someone in memorium,"Hevesy said. "Wil was a very popular person.

"I suggested the family have this back in April, but they said too many of Wil's college friends couldn't have made it then. There are a lot of fond memories of him as a kid here."

A full house is anticipated for the first shift. The second shift has numerous openings.

Morrow said his entire family, including his wife, son David, daughter Laurie, grandparents, aunts and uncles will be on hand June 3.

"The idea is to remember Wil in a place he truly loved,"Morrow said. "This is open to family, friends, people who knew him, even people who didn't. They can learn about a great kid."

Rick Reeder, president of USBCyouth bowling in Butler County, echoed those sentiments.

"Wil was an excellent bowler and a wonderful person, just a fantastic young man,"he said. "He's sorely missed by everyone. I still get goose bumps just thinking about him."

Registration forms for the Wil Morrow Memorial Bowl are available at Family Bowlaway. Contributions to the scholarship fund can be sent to Dan and Sue Morrow, 127 Shawnee Drive, Butler, Pa., 16001.
