Slippery Rock University physical education faculty member Robert Ogoreuc has become of six recipients nationwide of the 2006 National Honor Award from the Aquatic Council of the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation.

Ogoreuc worked on the American Red Cross Water Safety Advisory Group that revised the Water Safety Instructors program in 2004. He has contributed to the YMCA, USLA and StarGuard lifeguard textbooks.

He coached men's and women's swimming at SRUfrom 1991 through 2003.

Blake Anderson received the Cubs MVPaward at the recent Butler boys basketball awards banquet.Jade Burka received the Elks Award, Noah Hartung the Robert Kaufm,an Award, Chris Anthony the YMCASpirit, Mind and Body Award. Herb Klann was the senior with the highest grade point average and joined Adam Monday in receiving a Spirit Award.

Natalie Beilstein, a Knoch freshman and member of the Butler Gymnastics Club, won the Junior Olympic national championship in floor exercise in the Junior C age division Sunday in Oklahoma City, Okla.Beilstein's score was 9.65. She also placed sixth in vault with a 9.7 and 12th all-around with a 37.325. There were 58 girls in her division.Seneca Valley senior Jessica Suder made the trip as an alternate, was called on to compete on 20 minutes notice and placed sixth on the balance beam with a 9.575.

Jon Pratkanis of Butler finished in third place at the 13th Tournament of Club Champions Monday at Valleybrook Country Club.Pratkanis fired a 72-76-148, six strokes behind champion David Brown of Pittsburgh.Mike Marron of Parker was 22nd with an 85-75-160.

DAVIE, Fla. — The man charged with assaulting Miami Dolphins linebacker Jason Taylor faces hate crime charges, police said.Redmond Charles Burns, 24, allegedly used racial epithets and yelled obscenities at Taylor, who is black, during an alleged highway confrontation Sunday night. Taylor told police that Burns grabbed his shirt, ripping it in several places, and suffered a "minor laceration" on a forearm from a metal object Burns allegedly used.

SAN DIEGO — Doug Mirabelli, who during his tenure in Boston was Tim Wakefield's personal catcher, was traded back to the Red Sox for the replacement who hasn't been able to handle the knuckleballer.The Red Sox gave up backup catcher Josh Bard, minor league reliever Clay Meredith, cash or another player.
