Crossbows approved for turkey hunting
HARRISBURG, — Hunters can add crossbows to the list of legal weapons they may use when spring gobbler season opens Monday.
In January, the Pennsylvania Game Commission approved the use of crossbows during any turkey season. The change will take effect on Saturday, when it is scheduled to be published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
Spring gobbler hunters also may use shotguns and bows and arrows. Rifle-shotgun combinations also may be used, but no single-projectile ammunition may be used or carried, according to the game commission.
Hunters using crossbows or bows must use bolts or arrows with razor-type broadheads on the tips.
The spring gobbler season, in which hunters are allowed to take only bearded wild turkeys, runs through May 27.
