TORONTO — The Maple Leafs fired Pat Quinn Thursday, two days after Toronto missed the playoffs for the first time in his seven seasons as coach.Quinn led Toronto to a 41-33-8 record this season. It was only the second time in his 19-year coaching career that he missed the playoffs.He's fourth all-time in coaching victories with 657 behind Scotty Bowman (1,244), Al Arbour (781) and Dick Irvin (692).

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Top jockey John Velazquez was injured at Keeneland when his horse collapsed and rolled onto him after winning the Forerunner Stakes Thursday.The two-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was stable.Velazquez was injured when Up an Octave broke down and fell about a sixteenth of a mile past the finish line. The horse fractured a leg after the race and had to be euthanized on the track.
