SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior Paul Schwab and freshmen Jennifer Hansen and Vera McDaniel have all garnered PSAC Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts at The Rock's Invitational Saturday.
Schwab won the decathlon with 6,582 points.
Hansen broke the SRU and PSAC records in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 4 inches.
McDaniel set new school marks in both the 100-meter dash (12.03 seconds) and 200 dash (24.71).
DURHAM, N.C. — An attorney for one of two Duke University lacrosse players charged with raping a stripper at a team party strongly rejected any sort of deal with prosecutors, proclaiming again his client's innocence.Attorney Bill Cotter said Wednesday that Collin Finnerty, who along with fellow sophomore Reade Seligmann was indicted Monday on charges of first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping, has left Durham, although he wouldn't say where he went.Both Finnerty and Seligmann posted $400,000 bond after their pre-dawn arrests early Tuesday, and were released within hours.School officials have declined to say whether it plans to discipline either of the players, although they have noted the university has historically suspended students charged with a felony.
NEW YORK — NHL attendance was up 2.4 percent from the last season before the lockout, with the league setting records for average and total fans.The NHL played to 91.7 percent of capacity, drawing 20,854,169 fans for 1,230 regular-season games for an average of 16,955. In 2003-04 — the last season before the lockout — the league drew 20,356,199 for an average of 16,550.

Larry Nelson, overlooked as a Ryder Cup captain and often forgotten despite his remarkable journey from Vietnam War veteran to three-time major champion, was elected into the World Golf Hall of Fame Wednesday.He will be inducted Oct. 30 at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., along with the late Henry Picard, selected through the veteran's category; and Vijay Singh, who deferred his induction after being elected last year.
