DULUTH, Ga. — Phil Mickelson got off to a fast start in his bid for a third BellSouth Classic title — and made it clear that he's in top form for the Masters.

Mickelson tied the tournament's course record Thursday, shooting a 9-under 63 to take a one-shot lead over Gavin Coles in the first round of the final tuneup for Augusta.

Mickelson birdied six of the first seven holes, but missed a six-foot birdie putt on the 18th green that would have set the record at the TPC at Sugarloaf.

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Michelle Wie got all the attention in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Lorena Ochoa gladly settled for the lead and a spot in the record books.Ochoa birdied her final hole Thursday to tie an LPGA major championship record at 10-under 62, giving her a four-shot lead over Wie in the first major of the year.Ochoa broke the tournament record set by Mary Beth Zimmerman at Mission Hills in 1997. The 62 tied the record in a major set by Minea Blomqvist in the 2004 Women's British Open at Sunningdale.

NEW YORK — Boston Red Sox reliever Julian Tavarez Thursday was suspended for 10 days and fined for his role in a brawl this week.Tavarez punched Tampa Bay's Joey Gathright lightly on the jaw after a play at home plate on Monday. The suspension starts April 3, unless he appeals.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Anna Benson wants a divorce from Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kris Benson, who still thinks the New York Mets traded him because of his impulsive wife.Anna Benson, an actress and model who has posed topless, filed for divorce in Atlanta Thursday. The petition for divorce claims the marriage is "irretrievably broken."
