Former Slippery Rock University linebackers coach Dwayne Martin and graduate assistant coach Jesse Kelly have joined Jay Foster's football coaching staff at Clarion University.

Foster was The Rock's defensive coordinator before taking over Clarion's program this off-season. Martin, linebackers coach at SRUfrom 2002-05, will be Clarion's defensive coordinator.

Kelley, 26, posted 159 tackles and seven quarterback sacks as a linebacker-defensive end at SRU. He was a graduate assistant coach there in the spring of 2005 and has served internships coaching at Auburn University and the Air Force Academy.

Butler's Cole Baxter and Ryan Hannon secured fifth-place finishes at the Pennsylvania State Junior Olympics Tournament last weekend in Johnstown.Baxter, 13, went 4-2 in the 14-under 102-pound division while Hannon, 10, went 4-2 in the 10-under 105-pound division.Butler's Marino Quercio went 1-2 in the 14-under 215-pound division while Dakoda Collins and Alex Miranda were both 0-2 at 12-under 115 pounds and 14-under 112 pounds, respectively.

Noah Wright, a first-grader at Mars Area Primary Center, recently won first place in the age 6-and under, 50-pound novice category at the Road Warrior wrestling competition at State College.The Mars Youth Wrestling program has doubled in size over the past four years and now boasts 54 wrestlers.Wright earned 30 points in the competition to place first. Fellow Mars wrestlers Alex Tumminello and Richie Boeh also placed among the top 25.

Slippery Rock High School athletic director Cory Hake has released the following statement concerning the school's varsity girls basketball coaching position:"The decision to open up the position was based upon information provided by the athletic director, administration and parents."The Slippery Rock School Board voted to open the position at its meeting Monday night.
