Milo Williams
In 1913, Milo Williams opened the doors of Milo Williams Jewelers and Optometrists in Butler. A goldsmith in those days assembled and repaired eyeglasses as well as jewelry.
Milo worked hard at earning a reputation of honesty and customer service.
During the tough years of war and the Great Depression, he sold not only jewelry and eyeglasses, but also giftware and even kitchenware.
In the evenings after school in the old, red brick building, Bob Moore Sr. would work for his uncle Milo doing odd jobs around the store. As the American dream does come true, Bob Moore ended up buying the business in 1967.
As president of the Downtown Businessmen's Association, Moore served the community as well as his customers.
Milo Williams already had a great reputation in the community, and Bob added his own flair for offering uniquely different styles of jewelry, many created by the in-store goldsmith.
In 1975, Bob Moore Jr. joined his father in the family business and became the third generation to carry on the family tradition.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) gave Bob the education he needed about gemstones and goldsmithing but it's the 93 years of experience that have taught Milo Williams and Bob Moore about excellence in customer service.
The exceptional value Bob wants for Milo's customers is not possible with expensive mall overhead being added to the price tags. Because of that, the store in the Clearview Mall was closed in 1998 and all efforts were concentrated in the original Main Street location.
By owning the building, low overhead makes possible exceptional values without sacrificing quality or customer service.
The uniqueness of Milo's continued to evolve in 2003 with the addition of a great selection of antiques.
As "Butler's Oldest Family Jeweler," generations have trusted Milo's for excellence in customer service started by Milo Williams in 1913.
