Cornerstone Commons

Built in 1905, Cornerstone Commons, formerly the Oddfellows Building, is being brought back to life in Butler.

The building on the corner of Cunningham Street and Main Street was the long standing home of John Honse Furniture and the Independent Order of Oddfellows, who had its lodge on the third floor.

Cornerstone Commons was bought by Joseph L. Gray in 2004,and he has been updating the mechanics to meet today's building code and remodeling ever since.

Currently, the Butler Township/City Joint Municipal Transit Authority occupies half the first floor. The Gateway Engineers Inc. occupies the entire second floor of the 4 story building.

If you are familiar with the Oddfellows building, you may have noticed that the exterior has changed. The Main Street façade of the building was replaced to create additional space on the first floor while also improving the appearance of the building.

Gray is remodeling the third floor Oddfellows Lodge. The lodge consisted of two ballrooms with 16 Qw feet high ornate plaster ceilings. All 14 of the original double hung windows have been replaced with similar new ones and the oak moldings and window frames have been refinished.

An elevator installed in the building more than a year ago provides service to the third floor. Brass chandeliers, new paint and carpet will be added to complete the project.

The grand ballroom at Cornerstone Commons will open in July to host weddings, receptions, showers, anniversary parties, holiday parties and other special events.
