Shawn Lutz, defensive line coach for the past seven seasons, was named defensive coordinator of the Slippery Rock University football team.

Lutz ucceeds Jay Foster, who recently was named head coach at Clarion University.

Lutz has coached seven Rock players who have earned All-America citations and 17 who have garnered All-PSACWest honors. Rock defensive linemen have led the PSACin quarterback sacks in four of the past six seasons.

The Mars and Union girls basketball teams will compete in PIAA tournament western Saturday.Mars faces Hopewell at 5 p.m. in a Class AAAsemifinal at Duquesne University's A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh. Union meets Serra Catholic in a Class Asemifinal at 1 p.m. at Indiana (Pa.) University.
