Rock earns sweep

Right fielder Dave Gonos and left fielder Ryan Dillon had four hits each Wednesday to lead the Slippery Rock University baseball team to a 4-1, 12-7 doubleheader sweep of West Liberty (W.Va.) in Fort Myers, Fla.

Gonos had a double, a single and an RBIin the first game and hit a two-run homer in the nightcap. Dillon had a double, three singles and two RBIin the twinbill.

Shortstop Phil Butch added two singles and two stolen bases in the first game. Senior right-hander John Katich recorded his first win of the season. He allowed four hits and struck out three in six innings.

Mars graduate Josh Rape was credited with the win in the second game. He pitched three innings in relief of starter Troy Wilson.

The Rock (6-4) had 14 hits in the second game. Catcher Jim Eimiller collected two singles and three RBI, Todd Schickling had a double and two RBI and J.D. Lowry had two hits.

SRUfaces Southwest Minnesota State in a doubleheader today before facing nationally ranked Florida Gulf Coast in a single game at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Rock closes its Florida trip with a 9 p.m. Saturday game against Millersville.
