SAXONBURG — An open house will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Saxonburg Library, 240 W. Main St. for the library's Nature Zone program.

The program features activities for children, including fossils, animal bones, pinecones and coloring pages.

FRANKLIN TWP — The Lutherlyn Environmental Education Program will host a Maple Syrup Time program from 9:30 a.m. to noon March 4 at Camp Lutherlyn, off Dick Road.As part of the camp's Saturday Safari series, the program will demonstrate how to identify trees in winter, tapping maple trees and the evaporation process.Participants should dress to be outdoors. ZELIENOPLE — The Zelienople Rotary Club is offering four $1,000 college scholarships and one $1,000 vocational scholarship to seniors in the Seneca Valley School District.To be eligible, the seniors must live within the 16063 or 16037 ZIP codes. The club puts emphasis on students who demonstrate financial need and have exhibited a spirit of community volunteerism.Applicants are asked to write a 500-word essay.Applications will be available Wednesday through March 15 at the Seneca Valley Senior High School Guidance Department. Completed applications must be returned to the office by March 27.

BUTLER TWP — Lifesteps will host free Child Check developmental screenings for children age 5 and younger from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St.Each screening takes about 30 minutes and results will be discussed with parents immediately.Appointments are recommended.
