The Pittsburgh Penguins scheduled a press conference for this morning and were expected to announce the firing of coach Ed Olczyk.

The Penguins are 8-17-6 on the season and have the fewest wins and the fewest goals scored in the NHL's Eastern Conference. They have dropped eight of their last nine games.

Pittsburgh is coming off a 3-0 loss at St. Louis — the team with the league's worst record — Tuesday night.

Assistant coaches Randy Hillier and Joe Mullen were expected to be fired as well.

Michel Therrien, coach of the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre, is expected to replace Olczyk.
