Dipping into the 'Mc' league of QBs

Fantasy owners don't need Mike McMahon to be another Donovan McNabb, but they hope he will put up better numbers than Cade McNown.

Of course, if McMahon ends up as good as Jim McMahon was in 1985, they'll take that. That McMahon, who was with the Bears, had 15 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. Mike McMahon's best year was in 2002 when he made four starts and threw seven TDs, but also had nine interceptions.

Then there's Steve McNair, the best "Mc" passer of them all. He leads all those quarterbacks with 149 touchdown passes and 25,818 passing yards. He also has tacked on 3,396 rushing yards and ran for 36 TDs.

But back to the present. Seven games remain, and Mike McMahon is at least temporarily at the helm of the Eagles' ship. But because the Birds have a new center, a depleted receiving corps and a difficult schedule, only those who are desperate should consider picking up McMahon.

He probably won't be as bad as Hugh McCullough was with the 1940 Chicago Cardinals (four touchdown passes, 21 interceptions), and he would do very well to equal Cleveland's Paul McDonald's 14 TD passes in 1984.

One thing is certain. Mike McMahon will not equal Tommy McDonald's Eagles career "Mc" passer-rating record. McDonald, who is in the Hall of Fame as a wide receiver, completed both of his career attempts, including a 10-yard touchdown in 1962, for a rating of 150.0.

Unfortunately, he's not in the Eagles' quarterback mix.

In honor of Thanksgiving, we'd like to hear something fantasy football-related that you are thankful for this year.It could be a pickup or a trade, or maybe you run a league and everybody has paid the league fees. (Yeah, right.)Send an e-mail to fantasyfootball@phillynews.com or a fax to 215-854-5524. Include your name and hometown.

The Ravens' offense has scored seven touchdowns in nine games. The Colts have 30.

Rams quarterback Marc Bulger: Unless he retires in the next two days, there's absolutely no scenario in which Bulger should be sitting against Arizona. Last week, Joey Harrington threw three TD passes against the Cardinals. Joey Harrington!Titans wide receiver Drew Bennett: He could return this week from a broken thumb. If Bennett is available, he certainly is worth considering for those hurting at wide receiver — i.e., those starting Reggie Brown.Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner: Returning this week to St. Louis to face the Rams and their 27th-ranked pass defense is one part of what makes him appealing. The expected return of Anquan Boldin from a knee bruise is the other.

Steelers running back Willie Parker: It's safe to get rid of this guy. Even if/when he comes back, the Steelers' backfield will be too crowded.Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith: He hasn't done much to warrant starting anyhow, and his hamstring injury isn't helping. Ernest Wilford on the other hand. ...Bears running back Adrian Peterson: Starter Thomas Jones is expected back, but Jones owners still should hold on to Peterson as insurance. With Carolina visiting, this is the week we find out whether the Bears are for real.

Carolina at Chicago: Rain and snow showers.Miami at Cleveland: Rain and snow showers.Indianapolis at Cincinnati: Rain, some wind.Minnesota at Green Bay: Cold, dry moderate wind.
