Ten Grove City College student-athletes earned All-President's Athletic Conference honors from their coaches of their respective fall sports.The men's soccer, team had five players as Bob McNees and Adam Ludwig earned first-team honors and Michael Manahan, Nate Jones and Jonathan Breese made the second-team list.In women's soccer, Katie Klingensmith and Kristin Hummel made the first team and Stacey Brubaker and Laura Shipley were named to the second team.Carlie Roberts, a member of the women's volleyball team was a first-team selection.
The Butler High School girls volleyball team honored its players at its annual banquet recently.Amy Achesinski received the award for best offensive player and Yuki Schaper got the honor for best defensive player. Katie Willison received the 100 Percent Award and Ashley Grenet was named most improved.The Lucas-Swidzinski Award went to Kelley Crater, and Abby Herrit. Achesinski was named to the all-section second team and Herrit was an all-section honorable mention.
Slippery Rock University men's soccer coach Matt Thompson was named PSAC Coach of the Year by his peers.Thompson led The Rock to its first conference playoff berth in 20 years and its first conference playoff championship in 31 years.SRU (12-7-2) opens NCAA Northeast Regional competition at 1 p.m. Friday against New York Institute of Technology in Oakdale, N.Y.Thompson is 33-40-6 in four years as SRU's head coach.
Knoch graduate Elaine Voltz, a junior middle hitter on the Penn State-Behrend women's volleyball team, was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year.Voltz, who repeated first team All-AMCC honors, leads the league in hitting percentage at .369 and is second in kills per game at 4.20.Penn State-Behrend (26-7) opens NCAA Division III Tournament play at 6 p.m. today against Gettysburg at Juniata College.
