Blackhawks win in OT

CHICAGO — Brent Seabrook's timing was perfect — again.

The rookie defenseman scored his second game-winner in a week, leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 overtime victory over Phoenix on Sunday night.

"He's got great hockey sense," Chicago coach Trent Yawney said. "He's seeing the ice as well as probably any young player on defense in the game right now."

After killing a power play earlier in the extra period, the Blackhawks converted on a 3-on-1 rush, with Mark Bell finding Seabrook in front for the winner with 38.3 seconds left in overtime. The puck hit goalie David LeNeveu and trickled across the line for Seabrook's second goal of the season.

Chicago was coming off a 9-1 loss in Dallas on Friday night.

"It was in the back of our minds, we didn't want another showing like that," Seabrook said. "But at the same time, we didn't want to think about it."

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 28 shots for the Blackhawks, who had dropped five of six. LeNeveu finished with 34 saves.

After scoring four power-play goals Saturday night in a 4-1 victory in Detroit, Phoenix was 0-for-6 against Chicago.

"We knew coming in here, we were coming into a tough situation," Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky said. "They had a tough night the other night. They have a lot of pride as an organization. Their coach is a good young coach. We knew they were going to be ready to go. We had opportunities tonight and again cost ourselves. We gave ourselves a chance and then they beared down."

Phoenix's Shane Doan opened the scoring with 1:45 left in the second period, beating Khabibulin off a pass from Boyd Devereaux. Doan has five goals this season.

Chicago tied on a power play at 2:55 of the third period when Rene Bourque knocked in a rebound for his third goal.

"I got a chance in the post in the first shift of the game," Bourque said. "I've been fighting the puck a little bit lately, just having trouble scoring. It feels good to get that one."

Neither team mounted a serious threat the rest of regulation.

Chicago's Martin Lapointe was called for hooking at 1:40 of overtime but Phoenix couldn't win it. Paul Mara broke his stick attempting a shot, and Khabibulin stopped slap shots by Doan and Ladislav Nagy.

"When you play well right from the start, you feel better," Khabibulin said. "I think guys in front of me played (well), especially in overtime they blocked a lot of shots. It was a very good effort."
