VEGAS - Wes Short Jr. hit his bunker shot within a foot of the pin, then tapped in for a par on the second hole of a playoff with Jim Furyk Sunday to win the Michelin Championship for his first PGA Tour title.

Short, who joined the tour last year as a 40-year-old rookie, forced the playoff by rolling in a 9-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation.

ATLANTA - Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collier died early Saturday after he had trouble breathing and was stricken in his home, his father said. He was 28.Jeff Collier told The Associated Press his son died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital and did not have any diagnosed health problems apart from his knees.General manager Billy Knight said Collier had "no issues" in a preseason physical given to all players.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Brett Hull announced his retirement Saturday from a career that left him the third-leading goal scorer in NHL history.Hull, 41, had 741 goals and 650 assists in his NHL career with Calgary, St. Louis, Dallas, Detroit and Phoenix. He had one assist in five games for the Coyotes this season, his 20th.Hull won Stanley Cup titles in 1999 with Dallas and 2002 with Detroit. In 1999, he scored a controversial goal in the third overtime to give the Stars a 2-1 victory over Buffalo in the series-ending sixth game.

NEW YORK - Atlanta Thrashers defenseman Andy Sutton was suspended for four games by the NHL on Saturday after his hit on Darcy Tucker the day before left the Toronto forward with a bloodied forehead.
