STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State freshman wide receiver Derrick Williams is out for the season with a broken left arm.

Williams suffered the injury in Saturday's 27-25 loss to Michigan on a kickoff return in which he was tackled by the Wolverines' Carl Tabb with less than four minutes to go in the game.

He will be sidelined three to four months, said Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, the team's physician.

Williams, one of the nation's top recruits from Greenbelt, Md., will likely need surgery. Against the Wolverines, he had a season-high six catches for 59 yards. The Nittany Lions (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) dropped four spots to No. 12 in the latest Associated Press poll.

Williams finished with 22 catches for 289 yards and a TD on the season, starting all seven games he played. He had been one of a slew of freshman who have seen significant playing time at wideout.

Williams also had 22 carries for 105 yards and three scores as coach Joe Paterno sought to get his star freshman more touches. He has also returned 13 kickoffs for a 21.1 average.

Williams' big-play ability and quickness has helped boost a Penn State offense that struggled last season. With Williams gone, fellow freshmen Justin King, Deon Butler and Jordan Norwood will likely see more playing time.
