Pitt receiver Lee's shoulder OK

PITTSBURGH - He didn't move as fluidly as he does during a pass pattern through an opponent's secondary, but Pittsburgh junior wideout Greg Lee returned to training camp practice Friday afternoon with just a little wear and no tear on his injured right shoulder.

Lee, one of Pitt's most important skilled offensive players, landed awkwardly on the shoulder after catching a touchdown pass in a mid-practice drill Thursday. He held onto the ball even though he hit the ground hard and defender Tez Morris fell on top of him.

"He's banged up and sore a little bit, but the good news is that obviously there's no breaks and no surgery will be needed," Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt said. "As soon as he can start catching and jogging, we'll get him to do that and then ease him into practice as soon as he can go. But he'll probably be riding the (stationary) bike (Friday)."

Lee wasn't wearing shoulder pads when he was injured. College teams must practice the first two days without them and practice two days with them before adding the full pads. That means that Pitt didn't add shoulder pads to uniforms for practice until Friday. The Panthers go in full gear Sunday.

"I don't think there's any question that shoulder pads would have helped," Wannstedt said. "And it was when the other player fell on top of him, that's when he bruised (the shoulder). But he'll be fine."

Wannstedt said the practice will get more intense, especially in line play, when the team puts its pads on.

Notes: Wannstedt said the Panthers should hold an intrasquad scrimmage either Sunday or Monday after they're in full gear.
