The Seneca Valley Palomino baseball team recently won the Canadian Hall of Fame Wooden Bat Tournament.
Seneca Valley won six of the seven games it played. Dan Jergel was named tournament MVP and Ryan Turner was the pitching MVP.
Chelsea Gibson, 16, of Saxonburg successfully defended her championship of the Oglebay Junior Tennis Tournament in Wheeling, W.Va. last week.The Knoch High School sophomore defeated Katie Liss of Glencreek Club in the South Hills of Pittsburgh in a three-set match in 90-degree heat. Gibson won the match 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 after defeating Kaitlyn Stroyne 6-2, 6-0 in the girls age 16 division.Andrew Thompson of Butler finished third in the boys age 18 singles division.
Eight teams are in place for the 10th annual West Penn Inter-Club Junior Tennis Team Championships Thursday at Butler Country Club.Competing will be four-person teams from Butler Country Club, Butler Junior Tennis Association, Edgeworth (private club) of Sewickley, Chapel Gate Swim Club of Fox Chapel, Forest Hills Swim Club in Wilkinsburg, Green Oaks Country Club in Verona, The Racquet Club of Pittsburgh and Wildwood Golf Club in the North Hills.Junior varsity, varsity and overall team championship awards will be presented, along with extra effort and sportsmanship awards.Play is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
