The Union baseball team managed just two unearned runs in a 6-2 loss to Clarion-Limestone in the District 9 Class A semifinals Tuesday afternoon.

Adam Milanovich collected two of the Golden Knights' five hits, but Lions pitcher Scott Davis struck out 10 to keep Union's offense at bay.

Kyle Hilliard pitched three innings, striking out four, walking two and surrendering five earned runs in the loss.

Slippery Rock University's Tony Carr placed seventh in the men's javelin on the final day of action at the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.The place earned him All-American honors at the meet, hosted by Abilene Christian (Texas) University.Carr's best throw was 199 feet, 4 inches. Jon Rozborski of Cal State-Chico had the winning toss of 226-10.

CONCORD, N.C. - Altering the track surface at Lowe's Motor Speedway was supposed to create a more competitive race. Instead, it helped turn the Coca-Cola 600 into a demolition derby.A NASCAR-record 22 cautions marred the event, and drivers complained that track changes caused many of them.Lowe's Motor Speedway president Humpy Wheeler spent $250,000 to grind out the track's trademark bumps to create a smooth surface that would foster more side-by-side racing."I don't feel particularly good as the promoter having the most cautions in a race in NASCAR history," he said Tuesday. "We may have to look into making a few changes before the next race here."

NEW YORK - At long last, trainer Nick Zito will find out what it's like to be inducted into racing's Hall of Fame instead of attending the ceremony and wondering.Zito, voted into the hall in his eighth year of eligibility, will be inducted Aug. 8 at Saratoga Springs, along with three standouts in steeplechase racing - jockey Thomas Walsh, trainer Sidney Watters Jr. and five-time champion Lonesome Glory.
