Cheer:

Lenny Zirnsak, 53, of Connoquenessing Township is deserving of praise for his quick thinking and bravery in rescuing a 47-year-old New Castle woman who had driven her car into Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park in what would become a failed suicide attempt.

Hopefully, having been spared from her intended fate, the woman in question will be able to resolve the issues that caused her to choose death over life. Perhaps Zirnsak's presence at the right place at the right time in what was an unplanned visit to the park will impart a message to the woman that there are positive possibilities for her life in the future.

It was Zirnsak's wife who deserves the credit for a motorcycle ride that turned out to be much more. Diana Zirnsak got the urge to go for a motorcycle ride with her husband before dinner and suggested that the couple ride through the park.

Upon their arrival, they saw a car floating on the lake and, almost as if fate was working from a second angle, Lenny Zirnsak spotted a small park boat at the water's edge - a boat that helped him rescue the woman.

Zirnsak, who is a crane operator at AK Steel, was, in the aftermath of the rescue, modest regarding his efforts.

"I'm glad I was able to do what I did," he said. "It was just one of those things."

Deep inside, though, he always should be proud of what he was able to accomplish.

Not everyone would have been capable of the bravery and fast action he displayed in saving the woman's life.
