IN BRIEF
SAN FRANCISCO - Pittsburgh Pirates ace Oliver Perez will miss his scheduled start today because of stiffness in his left shoulder.
Right-hander Josh Fogg will pitch on three days' rest in place of Perez in the finale of a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants.
Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon hopes Perez, 1-4 with an 8.03 ERA in seven starts, will miss only one outing, then pitch again next Tuesday or Wednesday at home against the Chicago Cubs. The Pirates have three off days in the span of a week, which should give the left-hander plenty of time to recover and regain some confidence.
