FISHING BRIEFS

HARRISBURG - With the 2005 trout season now open, stocking trucks from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission are out providing additional trout to waterways across the state.

This year, anglers can know exactly what day most trout stockings occur because in-season trout stocking details are available on the commission's web site at www.fish.state.pa.us, according to a commission news release.

In the past the commission had limited the information on in-season trout stockings to weeks not days.

As part of an ongoing assessment of its trout fishing programs, the commission decided announcing stockings during the open season in an attempt to increase trout fishing participation. Announcing stocking details could also help address the perception that in-season stockings favored anglers who had more discretionary time during the business week.

The commission will be releasing adult trout into 6,350 miles of streams and 123 lakes covering 17,792 acres as part of the inseason trout stocking program, the news release said.

The majority of those stockings have the exact date of restocking published. In some instances, because of traffic or landowner concerns, only the week of restocking is listed.
