Rock pounds IUP
The pitching has been good. The hitting on Tuesday was even better.
The Slippery Rock University baseball team got out the lumber on the road against Indiana (Pa.) University, sweeping the hosts 13-4 and 14-7.
The Rock opened the doubleheader by taking an 11-1 lead after three innings as Matt Kozusko drove in three runs in the contest.
In the second game, SRU led 8-0 after two innings on the way to the rout.
Chris Tolliver homered and drove in four runs in the nightcap for The Rock (22-2, 4-0 in the PSAC West).
The Rock offense was held to just 10 singles combined in dropping both ends of a Tuesday doubleheader to Lock Haven, 10-0 and 5-1.Jesse Gump had SRU's (13-9, 1-3) only multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 in the opener.Stacey Rhoahes accounted for SRU's lone run with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the nightcap.
Ashley Michaux won her singles match against the No. 38-ranked player in the nation 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 and won her doubles match with Kate Ingram 8-6, but SRU (4-9) fell to Indiana (Pa.) 6-3 Tuesday.Erika McKenna's 7-6 (12-10), 2-6, 10-8 win in the No. 4 singles match accounted for the other Rock point.
