The Rock records a sweep
Sophomore pitcher Courtney Conron threw a 3-hit shutout and freshman shortstop Stacey Rhoades hit a two-run home run to lift the Slippery Rock University softball team to a 3-0 win over Seton Hill in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
Conron added four strikeouts and no walks in the victory.
The Rock (12-6) prevailed in the second game 5-4, despite committing four errors and surrendering four unearned runs.
The Grove City College softball team extended its winning streak to three games with a doubleheader sweep of Penn State Behrend Thursday afternoon.Senior second baseman Abby Moose, a former Portersville Christian School student who hadn't played softball since her sophomore year in high school, tripled and also scored the game-winning run in the 2-1 win in the first game.In the second game, the Wolverines (3-7) scored 10 runs in the third inning - the biggest output in an inning since 1997 - on the way to a 12-2 win.Grove City High School graduate Stephanie Briggs doubled in the lopsided victory.
