Rowe huge in Rock split
Knoch High graduate Chase Rowe had three hits as the Slippery Rock University baseball team salvaged a doubleheader split with Pitt-Johnston at Jack Critchfield Park Tuesday afternoon.
In The Rocks 3-0 loss in the first game, Rowe nearly hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning, but his shot curved foul down the right-field line.
Rowe, though, hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the decisive run in SRU's 4-3 victory in the second game.
The Rock's Chris Tolliver hit a two-run shot in the second game.
SRU (16-2) will host Shepherd (W.Va.) in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today.
Erika McKenna's 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory in her No. 4 singles match led The Rock to a 5-4 triumph over Malone (Ohio) College Tuesday.The No. 1 doubles tandem of Ashley Michaux and Ashley Greene (Seneca Valley) won 8-3. Michaux and Greene both won their singles matches to key SRU's (4-7) win.
Amanda Zychowski, an A-C Valley High School graduate, scored two goals and added an assist and a steal as The Rock fell to Washington & Jefferson 11-7 Tuesday night.Erika Brunner scored three goals and had six steals for The Rock (7-15).
