All pumped up
Butler Fire Department got this pumper/rescue truck in late 2004. The $311,000 truck was paid for with a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant and grant money from the city's Redevelopment Authority. The pumper has a system that makes specialized foam for fighting various fires and other emergencies. The foam can be made dry, which can act as a fire retardant insulator for about 45 minutes. This can be sprayed between a building that is on fire and one that is not in an attempt to save the second structure. The foam also can be made wet, "like soapy dishwater," one city firefighter said, and used to knockdown fires.
