HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will begin stocking trout in 2007 that are 30 percent larger on average than the trout they currently use. However, the commission will stock about 20 percent fewer trout. The change, approved Wednesday, comes in response to angler interest, the commission said."The pie is finite. We can produce 1.9 million pounds of trout," said commission spokesman Dan Tredinnick. "How we decide to carve that trout up is the question."The average fish will weigh around 10 ounces and be about 11 inches in length - up from about 7 ounces and 10 inches length.Besides stocking 3.2 million 11-inch brook, brown and rainbow trout, the new plan calls for stocking 30,000 trout averaging two pounds and 16 inches and 9,000 golden rainbow trout averaging 1.5 pounds and 14 inches. The commission currently stocks about 4 million trout on about 4,700 miles of streams.
