Rock slips past West Chester in 10th

Mat Kozusko's sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning proved to be the difference as the Slippery Rock University baseball team remained undefeated with a 11-10 win over West Chester Monday in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Rock (6-0) built a 9-0 lead in the first three innings before West Chester began its comeback.

Senior left-hander Jeremy Becker got the victory in relief for SRU. He entered the game with the score tied in the bottom of the ninth and the potential winning run standing at third with one out.

Becker struck out the two hitters he faced to end that inning, then worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the 10th to preserve the win.

Sophomore second baseman Phil Butch paced a 13-hit attack for The Rock by collecting a double, two singles and three RBI.

Senior designated hitter Billy Wolfe added a double, single and three RBI. Junior right fielder Dave Gonos added two singles.

SRU is now ranked No. 13 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America poll and is ranked No. 19 in the Collegiate Baseball national poll.

The Rock was scheduled to face Findlay in a double-header this morning.

Stacey Rhoades had three singles and a double and Brittany Hahn scattered eight hits over five innings to lead SRU to a 5-3 win over Quincy Monday in Savannah, Ga.Carrie Casoni added two singles and two RBI for The Rock (2-2).Earlier Monday, SRU dropped a 4-3 decision to Bluefield State despite getting a double, single and two RBI from Alicia Dixon and two more hits from Rhoades.

SRU (2-3) defeated Grensboro College 8-1 Monday in Hilton Island, S.C.Doubles teams of Ryan Steeh and Keith Kopelcheck, Rich Moore and Adam Shosky, Zack Thomas and John Crosley all posted victories for The Rock.Moore, Kopelcheck, Thomas, Shosky and Crosley all won singles matches.

SRU (2-4) trailed 2-1 after the doubles matches, but rallied for a 6-3 win over Greensboro College.Ashley Michaeux, Seneca Valley graduate Ashley Greene, Kate Ingram, Erika McKenna and Heather Webb all won singles matches for The Rock.
