Dairy management workshops offered
Dairy farmers face great uncertainty regarding planted crops and their milk prices. Many have opportunities to use crop insurance and forward contracts, but don't understand how. Workshops sponsored by the Penn State Cooperative Extension, the state Department of Agriculture, and the USDA's Risk Management Agency are designed to help state dairy producers.
A two-day workshop, dealing with basic dairy risk management, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 8 and 15 at Brown's Country Kitchen in Portersville. The registration deadline is March 3.
Another workshop, dealing with advanced dairy risk management, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 17 at the Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Mercer. The registration deadline is March 14.
