Rock swimmers shine
Jen Zuzack had two sixth-place efforts and four men's relay teams placed in the top eight for Slippery Rock University at the PSAC Swimming Championships over the weekend at West Chester.
The Rock women finished eighth out of 13 teams and SRU's men finished at the bottom of an eight-team field.
Zuzack placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and 200 backstroke. She placed seventh in the 100 backstroke.
Megan Jo Ramage placed sixth in the 1,000 freestyle. SRU's women's 800 freestyle relay team of Ramage, Zuzack, Rachel Stultz and Cassie Howard placed sixth.
The Rock's men's 400 medley relay team of Zach Liddle, Doug Gerould, Kevin Maksinchuk and B.J. Barch placed seventh. The same quartet was eighth in the 200 medley relay.
Gerould's seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke was the highest by an individual SRU swimmer.
The Rock will compete in the Indiana (Pa.) Last Chance Meet Saturday.
Erika Brunner scored 12 goals while compiling eight steals and six assists for The Rock women's team at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend.SRU (1-8) dropped all five of its games in the tournament and has lost eight straight overall since a season-opening 16-10 win over Eastern Michigan.Lisa Sobocinski added five goals for The Rock and A-C Valley graduate Amanda Zychowski had four assists and seven steals.The Hunkler Shootout - involving host SRU, Gannon, Grove City and Mercyhurst - takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Morrow Field House pool.
