Despite 22 points from Matt Lobaugh, the Butler County Community College men's basketball team lost to Potomac (Md.) State 53-51 on Monday.

Butler graduate Joel Rehm added seven assists and three steals for the Pioneers (16-9), who will host CCAC-South in a 7 p.m. playoff game Wednesday.

Kim Nowakowski, a freshman on the California (Pa.) women's basketball team, has been named PSAC-West Division Rookie of the Week.Nowakowski, a graduate of Butler High, had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals in a win over Shippensburg, then had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a win over Lock Haven Saturday.

The FCA Gems All-Star cheerleaders attended the 2005 American masters national championship in Baltimore this past weekend and returned with four championship trophies, one grand championship team and one national individual champion.Pink Ice (grade 2 and under), Turquoise (grade 6 and under), Tanzanites (9th grade and under) and Diamonds (grades 5-11) each won their respective divisions.Pink Ice and Turquoise was in first place after Saturday's competition while the Tanzanites were fourth and the Diamonds fifth. The latter two were able to work their way to gold after Sunday's routine.Pink Ice also won the Grand Championship plaque for having the highest score of the Mini Divisions.The individual competition, held Saturday evening, Jenna Plutyk won the national title in the grades 2-3 division and Sarah Becker was second in her age bracket.

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers signed outfielder Magglio Ordonez, the last remaining premier free agent of the offseason.Ordonez and the Tigers agreed to a $75 million, five-year contract, a deal with two option years that could raise the total to $105 million over seven seasons.Ordonez hit .292 last season with nine homers and 37 RBIs in 202 at-bats for the Chicago White Sox last season. A career .307 hitter with 187 homers, he missed 36 games after injuring his left knee May 19 - an injury that required two operations.

NEW YORK - Andre Agassi is returning to the U.S. Davis Cup team after a five-year absence.Agassi will try to help the United States win the Davis Cup for the first time in a decade, agreeing to play at least in a first-round match against Croatia on March 4-6 at Carson, Calif.The eight-time Grand Slam tournament champion stopped playing Davis Cup in 2000 as part of a scaled-back schedule geared to peaking for the majors.

NEW YORK - The New England Patriots' Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles was seen by an estimated 86.1 million people, down 4 percent from last year's game, Nielsen Media Research said.The Patriots' win over the Carolina Panthers in 2004 attracted 89.8 million.The national rating of 41.1 was down from last year's 41.3 on CBS.Jets QB Carter back in rehabNEW YORK - Jets reserve quarterback Quincy Carter is back in rehab for an undisclosed problem, a source within the league said.Carter left the Jets four days before their playoff game against Pittsburgh last month to be with his ailing mother in Decatur, Ga. The source said Carter had personal issues and was excused from the team.A little while after his departure, he entered the program. Carter previously went into rehab in 2003 and 2004.
