Butler graduate Adria Matonak, a junior point guard for the St. John Fisher (N.Y.) women's basketball team, recorded 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 72-56 win over Rochester Saturday.
The Cardinals improved to 12-0 overall for the first time since 1995.
Matonak was also named the college's female athlete of the week. In three games, she averaged 14 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists and shot 81.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Butler senior center Nate Hartung was nominated as an Old Spice Red Zone Football Player of the Year.Hartung is eligible to becoms one of 50 national players of the year.This program honors athletes who are able to elevate their play and step up when the heat is on. They embody leadership, performance and desire and serve as examples to their teammates both on and off the field.
Rachel Eaton, a sophomore guard on the Westminster College women's basketball team, scored a career-high 14 points in a 72-49 win over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City Saturday.
Melanie Buczko, a member of the Bucknell women's track team, tied her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds at the Penn State Relays Saturday.Buczko is undefeated in the pole vault in three tries this season, including a school and facility record at the Bison Opener Dec. 4 with a leap of 12 feet, 10 inches.
