Butler graduate Adria Matonak, a guard on the St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College women's basketball team, scored 14 points in a recent 77-67 victory over Keuka College.

The win enabled the Cardinals to get off to a 10-0 start for the 10th time in the program's 31-year history and for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

Grove City College senior guard Abby Moose scored nine points and added three assists Wednesday as the U.S. Deaflympic women's basketball team defeated Ukraine, 83-57, in a semifinal game in Australia.The United States will play Sweden in the gold medal game at 11 p.m. Eastern time Friday (3 p.m. Saturday in Melbourne).Moose is averaging 10.0 points and 2.3 assists with six 3-pointers through four tournament games. She has nine steals as well.

PHOENIX - Shea Hillenbrand was traded from the Arizona Diamondback to the Toronto Blue Jays for pitcher Adam Peterson Wednesday.Hillenbrand, acquired from Boston in May 2003, hit a team-high .310 for the Diamondbacks last season with 15 home runs and 80 RBI. A third baseman most of his career, he played first last season for Arizona.The Diamondbacks made the trade as a payroll-cutting move. Hillenbrand earned $2.6 million this season and was eligible for arbitration, which meant he probably would have received about $4 million for next season.

MELBOURNE, Australia - Andre Agassi's status for the Australian Open next week was in doubt after a hip injury forced him to retire during the first set of his Kooyong Classic match against Andy Roddick today.The four-time Australian Open winner said he felt tightness in the muscle at the front of his right hip and would have an MRI to determine the damage.Agassi said he first felt the injury midway through the first set, and briefly approached the umpire's chair in the 10th game.

NAMPA, Idaho - Jayson Williams made his return to professional basketball Wednesday, signing a contract with the Idaho Stampede of the Continental Basketball Association.The former NBA All-Star, who faces reckless manslaughter charges related to a 2002 shooting at his New Jersey mansion, has said he hopes to use the CBA as a springboard for his return to the NBA.Williams, who turns 37 next month, quit professional basketball in 2000 because of knee problems.The 6-foot-10 forward did not start against the Yakima Sun Kings, but took the floor about midway through the first quarter, drawing a polite cheer from the crowd.
