Four area cross country runners have been named first team All-Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference.
Travis Hewdell of Karns City and Brett Moore of Union on the boys side, and Genny Davis of Karns City and Alyssa Deal of Moniteau for the girls earned the honors.
Named to the boys second team were Travis Fiscus and Chris Prokay of Karns City, Eric Hillard and Chris Switzer of Moniteau. Named to the girls second team were Amy Gladd of Moniteau and Megan Booth of Union.
Ryan Eller, a senior forward on the Grove City College men's basketball team, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Week.Eller averaged 23 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in leading the Wolverines to a pair of wins at the West Penn Tip-Off Classic.
Butler graduate Rick Schontz was named honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference at defensive end.The Baldwin-Wallace College senior had 29 tackles - including 20 solo stops - for the 6-4 Yellowjackets.Schontz was a three-year starter at B-W and had 122 tackles, 12 quarterback sacks and 22 tackles for loss during his career.B-W was 30-12 during his four-year career and the program has put together 38 consecutive winning seasons.Ryanne Forcht, a senior midfielder for the Seton Hill University women's soccer team has earned Mideast Conference first-team honors while sophomore defender Maggie Quinlan made the second team. Both women are Butler High School graduates.
Slippery Rock University junior swimmer Jen Zuzack was named PSAC women's Swimmer of the Week after breaking three pool records at California (Pa.).Zuzack won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.1 seconds, the 100 freestyle (54.92) and swam a leg in the winning 400 freestyle relay (4:10.50).
Slippery Rock University sophomore setter Sara Kirsch was named to the Atlantic Region first team volleyball squad.Kirsch averaged just over 11 assists per game and her total of 55 aces is the second-best single season mark in Rock history.Junior outside hitter Layna Heilman-Houser was named to the region's second team.Senior forward Sarah Arsenault and freshman midfielder Jaimi Wilson were both named to the Northeast Region soccer second team.Arsenault finished her career as The Rock's all-time leader in goals (70) and points (161), while ending third in assists with 21.Wilson also garnered All-PSAC Western Division honors after her play this fall. She scored five goals and one assist.
