Millersville University kicker Sean Hughes capped a 90-yard drive with a 20-yard field goal late in the game Saturday, lifting the Marauders to a 17-14 college football win over Slippery Rock University at Biemesderfer Stadium.

The Marauders (4-4) used 15 plays and ate up nearly five minutes to produce the winning points with 37 seconds left in the PSAC crossover contest.

Millersville drove 57 yards for the game-tying touchdown on its previous possession.

"They hit three big plays during that (field goal) drive," SRU coach George Mihalik said. "A 15-yard run, a 30-yard pass, then their quarterback scrambled for 24 yards."

Dan Csencsitz's scramble on a third-and-4 play kept the Millersville drive alive.

The Rock held a 14-7 advantage entering the final quarter, but Millersville tied the score when Csencsitz found Ryan Clift for a 27-yard touchdown with 9:24 left in regulation.

Rock quarterback Nate Crookshank scrambled 20 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter, but it was wiped out by a holding penalty. Kicker Ryan Daniel missed field goal attempts of 42 and 46 yards as well.

"We got down to their 20-yard line twice, their 25 once. … We just didn't finish," Mihalik said.

Daniel didn't practice all week because of a virus.

"He was in the emergency room Thursday morning getting some medication to try to knock it out," Mihalik said. "Ryan was dehydrated pretty good. I'm sure he was still feeling the affects of that Saturday."

Josh Kniess scored both of SRU's touchdowns, with the second coming on a 56-yard punt return early in the second half. He also led The Rock in rushing with 68 yards on 17 carries.

Crookshank, who was sacked six times, completed 12-of-19 passes for 156 yards.

SRU's offense has scored just two touchdowns in the past two games.

"We averaged 30 points per game for the first five games," Mihalik said. "We're still moving the ball. We're just stalling out in key situations."

H-back Brandon Richardson had a career-high nine receptions for SRU for 112 yards.

The Rock's defense surrendered 248 yards passing but held Millersville to just 72 yards on 28 rushing attempts.

Senior linebacker Greg Baker led SRU's defensive effort with 12 tackles.

The Rock (3-5) has dropped three straight games and returns home for a 2 p.m. homecoming kickoff Saturday against Edinboro.

The Fighting Scots defeated Indiana (Pa.), 38-14, Saturday.

"It doesn't get any easier for us," Mihalik said. "Edinboro's coming to our place carrying a hot hand and we're not playing very well right now."
