Pioneers golfers 2nd at state tournament
Butler High School graduates Justin Kerr and Nate Bilski earned all-state honors as the Butler County Community College golf team placed second in the state at the PCAA golf tournament in Chambersburg Monday and Tuesday.
Kerr fired a 77 on the first day of the tournament and a 3-over-par 75 Tuesday at Penn National Golf Club.
Bilski shot an 83-76 for a two-day total of 159.
The Pioneers shot a 469 as a team over the two days, eight strokes off the winner, Penn College.
Emma Wright scored Slippery Rock University's lone goal as the 14th-ranked squad suffered its second straight setback with a 2-1 loss to Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday.The Rock (9-2-2, 5-1-1) still remain in first place in the conference.Martina Hall had the assist for SRU.
Lindsay Weber had 16 digs, nine kills and two service aces to lead SRU to a 30-21, 30-28, 30-22 victory over Edinboro in a PSAC West match Tuesday.Katie Greco added 11 kills, Sara Kirsch had 33 assists and 11 digs, Layna Heilman-Houser had 15 digs and eight kills and Grove City High School graduate Gwen Oberlin had 13 digs.The decision was The Rock's (15-12, 1-5) fourth consecutive victory.
