The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in a 2-0 decision to East Stroudsburg action Sunday.

The loss dropped SRU to 9-1-2 overall. After a 2-2 tie last Wednesday, The Rock could fall from its national and regional rankings.

Nick Christy and Gary Saunders each scored a goal to lead SRU to a 2-0 win at Kutztown.Kraig Bruder and Dave Keller each had an assist for SRU (7-3-2, 2-2-1). Pat Passewitz had six saves.

The Rock won all three of its volleyball matches over the weekend in PSAC crossover action at Millersville.SRU beat East Stroudsburg 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-19), Millersville 3-1 (30-20, 30-23, 24-30, 30-15) and Cheyney 3-0 (30-5, 30-9, 30-5).Lindsay Weber had 22 kills, 43 digs, 13 service aces and four blocks to lead, while Layna Heilman-Houser added 28 kills, 40 digs, eight aces and four blocks for SRU (14-12).

The Rock finished fourth in last weekend's Division II regional tournament at Queens College in New York.SRU lost the opening game by an 8-6 score to Gannon Friday, then beat Queens 14-5 Saturday morning. Gannon then beat The Rock 7-5 before SRU closed out its weekend schedule with a 13-5 win over Queens.

The Rock (1-13, 0-12) lost 2-0 and 3-0 decisions to Kutztown and East Stroudsburg, respectively, Saturday and Sunday.

The Grove City College women's team captured the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational Saturday as the Wolverines accumulated 62 team points in besting the 17-team field.Elisa Pedersen won the individual title with a time of 18 minutes, 27 seconds, her second title of the season.Cara Pierce placed seventh (19:25), Rachael Smith was 15th (20:07), Theresa Miller was 17th (20:13), Amanda Hewitt was 22nd (20:23) and Adrienne Sharp 24th (20:23).The men's team finished fourth out of 16 teams, behind winner CMU (18 points), St. Vincent (80) and Juniata (102).The Wolverines (135 points) were led by Andrew Kloes, who placed eighth with a time of 27:14, followed by teammates Dan Chittick (28th, 28:36), Chris Lee (29th, 28:38), Erik Johnson (33rd, 28:49), and Andy Leuenberger (37th, 29:04).Grove City will return to action at the Wilmington (Ohio) Invitational Friday.
