HIGHLIGHTS

- Kyle Orton, Purdue, threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns, leading the No. 15 Boilermakers to a 41-16 victory over Notre Dame.

- Eric Shelton, Louisville, tied a school record with five rushing touchdowns in the No. 22 Cardinals’ 59-7 rout of East Carolina.

- Chris Leak, Florida, threw for a career-high 322 yards and three touchdowns to help the No. 16 Gators beat Arkansas 45-30.

- Bruce Gradkowski, Toledo, passed for 455 yards and six touchdowns in a 52-14 romp over Ball State.

- Ricky Santos and David Ball, New Hampshire. Santos set school records by passing for 538 yards and six touchdowns, and Ball had 11 catches for three touchdowns and a school-record 284 yards in a 51-40 win over Villanova.

- DeAngelo Williams, Memphis, rushed for a school-record 262 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 41-14 win over Houston.

- Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green, threw for a career-high 367 yards and four touchdowns in a 70-16 rout of Temple.

- Cedric Benson, Texas, ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns, leading the No. 5 Longhorns to a 44-14 victory over Baylor.

- Brandon Landers, Grambling St., threw for 384 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the Tigers to a 53-32 win over Prairie View A&M.

- Hawaii’s Timmy Chang threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns and moved into second place on the NCAA’s career passing yardage list as the Warriors defeated Tulsa 44-16. Chang passed Philip Rivers’ mark of 13,484 yards and is chasing the 13-year-old NCAA mark of 15,031 yards set by Brigham Young’s Ty Detmer from 1988-91.

Rice and San Jose State played in the highest-scoring regulation game in Division I-A history, with the Spartans winning 70-63. The 133 points surpassed the total from Middle Tennessee State’s 70-58 victory over Idaho on Oct. 6, 2001. Both schools combined for 19 touchdowns to break the Division I-A record of 18 that had been accomplished twice, most recently by Middle Tennessee and Idaho in their 2001 game.

Vincent Fuller scored on a 74-yard blocked field goal return and intercepted Rasheed Marshall’s pass with 18 seconds left to help Virginia Tech upset West Virginia 19-13 Saturday. Last year, the Hokies’ national title aspirations were dashed by the No. 6 Mountaineers in a 28-7 loss at West Virginia.

Kyle Orton threw for 385 yards and four touchdown passes to help No. 15 Purdue end a 13-game losing streak at Notre Dame Stadium dating back to 1974 with a 41-16 win. Orton, who has 17 TD passes with no interceptions, has thrown four or more TDs in four straight games.Brady Quinn passed for a career-high 432 yards for the Fighting Irish — the most yards ever at Notre Dame Stadium and the second most in school history. Joe Theismann passed for 576 yards at Southern California in 1970.

Northwestern’s 33-27 upset victory over No. 7 Ohio State was the Wildcats’ first win over the Buckeyes since 1971, snapping Ohio State’s 24-game winning streak in the series.
