St. Jude Golf Club and Butler Country Club placed second and third, respectively, at the Jamison Cup Finals which concluded Friday at Butler Country Club.
St. Jude's team shot a combined 596, 10 strokes behind Oakmont Country Club. Butler Country Club finished with a 599.
St. Jude was led by Sean Knapp, who was second individually with a 142. Steve Fuhrer was 11th and Rob Voltz 19th.
Butler had three golfers finish in the top 20 in the individual standings.
Rob Lent was fourth (148), Corky Mowery was fifth (148) and Jeff Bauer was 18th (152).
Rob Shook closed out Lernerville Speedway's 37th season with a victory in the 30-lap Dingbat's Restaurant Pure Stock Pandemonium race on Family Night Saturday at the Sarver track.Shook prevailed from a field of 52 competitors and took home $1,400 for his efforts."Blackie" Watt took first place in the 15-lap Back-to-School Blue Bird School Bus race.Watt started fourth but moved to the front and beat out 11-time winner Bob Egley.Sarver's Missy Gardina won the Powder Puff School Bus race while Rich Mohar prevailed in a 35-lap demolition derby.Lernerville's awards banquet will be held March 5 at the Butler Days Inn.
WILKES-BARRE - A King's College lacrosse player died from complications related to an undisclosed sports injury, officials said.Michael Christopher Sabo, 19, of Westminster, Md., was originally treated at the emergency room of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on Sept. 19 and released later that day, according to Kevin McDonald, a spokesman for the Wyoming Valley Health Care system.Sabo returned to the hospital on Sept. 20, where he was treated and later transferred to the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, where he remained until his death Friday, officials said.The Dauphin County Coroner's Office could not be immediately reached and the cause of the death was not immediately known.School officials and members of the lacrosse team declined to comment on the injury or what caused it.
ANAHEIM, Calif. - Angels left fielder Jose Guillen was suspended for the rest of the season Sunday because of his outburst after being lifted for a pinch runner a day earlier.Guillen was informed of the club's decision after batting practice, when the Angels closed their clubhouse for 75 minutes. Anaheim said he was being suspended without pay and the suspension would continue into the postseason in the Angels qualify for the playoffs.
