Jeer:
It should not take a "new policy" for Gov. Ed Rendell to obey the speed limit.
The new policy issued from the governor's office last week says that state troopers driving the governor and lieutenant governor will obey the speed limit, except in emergency situations.
Apparently the earlier policy was that the governor's car could go as fast as the driver wanted. A newspaper report revealed in late March that Rendell's car had been clocked at speeds over 100-mph nine times in the previous four months. How many times was the car exceeding 100-mph when it wasn't clocked by law enforcement?
Rendell calls the new policy "fair" and promises the blatant speeding will not happen again. Considering the risks to the governor and other motorists on the highway, the governor's aversion to the legal speed limit should not have gotten so far out of hand.
