Points season ending Friday
Lernerville Speedway will wrap up its points season Friday night in the Sprint, Late Model, Modified and Pure Stock divisions.
Ed Lynch Jr. of Apollo looks to secure his third overall Sprint division points title and second in a row. His nine feature wins tie Johnny Beaber and Ralph Quarterson for the Sarver track's record for most Sprint wins in a season.
John Flinner of Zelienople is trying to clinch his fourth straight Late Model points title. He would become the first Late Model driver in Lernerville history to do so.
Flinner has a 33-point lead over Gary Lyle entering Friday's racing.
Dave Murdick of Slippery Rock owns a 22-point lead over Jim Weller Jr. as he tries to win his first-ever Modified points title.
Joe Kelley of Mount Pleasant is looking for his sixth career Pure Stock title at Lernerville. He leads Rob Shook by 15 points and Greg Beach of Chicora by 20.
Lou Blaney and Lou Gentile are the only other drivers in Lernerville history to win six points championships in one division.
Fans attending Friday's racing receive a free poster discouraging under-age drinking, courtesy of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. The poster features Sprint drivers Dan Shetler, Rod George and Brent Matus.
Lernerville will end its season with three special shows in September. The 17th annual Earl and David Bauman Memorial 35-lap All-Star Sprint Car Classic is Sept. 3. Time trials begin at 7:30 p.m.
The winner receives $6,000. Pure Stocks are on the card as well.
