The inaugural James M. Franceschi Memorial Golf Tournament, which was held at the Oakview Golf Club in Slippery Rock Monday, had a field of 134 golfers from seven different states.

Paul Leasure Jeff Byrnes, Ken Randall and Bob Webster took home first-place honors with a score of 59.

Jim Vargo, a former teacher at Butler, carded a hole-in-one on the No. 5 hole and won a four-day trip to Puerto Rico.

The shotgun scramble was held in memory of the late Butler High School history teacher who was killed in a car accident in West Virginia in April.

Proceeds benefit a scholarship at Butler High School that provides a $1,000 award every year to an outstanding senior who shares Franceschi's love of sports.

More than $5,000 was raised at this year's event.
