He received shrapnel wounds to his right hand on June 24 when his convoy was attacked by small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. Before deploying to Iraq, Vogel, 22, was a security officer. His parents, Lawrence and Twila, and his daughter, Isabelle, live in Slippery Rock.
