TOKYO - U.S. Army deserter Charles Jenkins will travel to Japan for medical treatment this weekend despite the risk that he could be extradited to the United States, Japanese officials said today.

Jenkins, accused of defecting to North Korea in 1965, will be hospitalized in Tokyo on Sunday.

On Thursday, officials in Washington reiterated that the United States would pursue its case against Jenkins.
